Kyaninga Lodge is situated in the western part of Uganda, near the country’s primate capital, Kibale national park, on the rim of an extinct, deep volcanic crater lake. There’s just a short drive of 30 mins from the lodge to Kibale national park.
The property harbours 9 cottages, and is built from hand carved local timber, and thatched roofs, well placed on raised platforms. The buildings at the property blend seamlessly with the hillside part, hence offering guests with extreme privacy, and remarkable views across the calm blue waters of Lake Kyaninga. The snow-capped peaks of Rwenzori Mountains can also be sighted in a distance.
Kyaninga lodge is simply one of the most outstanding luxury spots in the country, yet welcoming, especially while on chimpanzee trekking activities, or forest walks. The lodge is about a 20 minutes’ drive from north of Fort Portal, making the spot easier to access. For guests who prefer flights into the small Kasese town, or Fort Portal airstrip, the flights are available from the national Airport, or even a road driving from Entebbe.
Once guests have arrived at Kyaninga, they can now take the raised trail which connects the main lodge and the nine cottages. Olive baboons, monkeys, can be spotted swinging from one tree branch to another, bringing that rare feeling of being drowned in comfort and nature.
WHAT MAKES KYANINGA LODGE STAND OUT?
Kyaninga Lodge remains unique for its rare balance in raw luxury, mixed wild and thoughtful recreational services, which are lacking in many forest lodges.
The infinite swimming pool carved into the rocky hillside part overlooks the crater lake and serves as a massive spot for relaxing after a long day of chimpanzee trekking. A green grass tennis court, and even a badminton or boules options offer active guests a game while enjoying the wildlife views.
The lodge also offers wellness benefits like massages to ease trekking muscles. Kyaninga is eco-friendly and is run on solar power especially for cottages, there is also a strong community focus through projects like the Kyaninga Child Development Centre, Education Hub, and Forest Foundation.
Most bigger lodges feel crowded, but the limited number of cottages at Kyaninga keeps the whole spot a private and intimate atmosphere. Kyaninga staff go out of their way to serve guests, from arranging special bush breakfasts, to offering laundry services or sometimes offering trekking gear.
The lodge works smoothly for couples seeking privacy and romance, along with families who appreciate extra activities, or even solo travellers who want a home away from home space.
KYANINGA’S LOCATION ADVANTAGES FOR SAFARI ACTIVITIES ACTIVITIES.
Kyaninga National Park is mostly known for chimpanzee trekking activities, hence making Kyaninga Lodge a perfect spot for stay. The lodge is just about 1 hour away from the park.
Guests can head out early in the morning for the briefing at the park headquarters, then take tracking trails along with tour guides and park rangers to track the chimps, and for a swim or tennis games.

Birding activities around the lake hit a sweet spot. Most days guests might spot vervet monkeys, golden monkeys, baboons and other small wildlife right from the guest’s deck.
The lodge’s elevated position means breezes and fresh air keep the area cooler, and more comfortable than lower spots, very popular during the warmer seasons.
ROOM ANEMITIES.
The nine cottages are spacious enough, each one built on stilts with hand carved frames. The thatched roofs are pyramid like, giving an airy feel and light, due to high ceilings.

Bathrooms are exceptional, with marble twin vanities, and separate glass walled warm and cold showers. Thoughtful services include charging points, dressing gowns, and clear toiletries.
Family cottages provide extra space for kids. Rooms are cleaned daily, and many guests often praise how fresh, and well maintained the rooms feel. Some cottages offer room service options and privacy, while still allowing the sounds of the forest.
