Lemala covers about six hectares on the Kalagala Island, amid the Victoria Nile, not far from Jinja town, Uganda’s tourism capital. The spot sits near Kalagala Falls, where the Nile creates constant white mist and water. The island can only be accessed by boat, the boat transfers guests from the mainland around Kangulumira, then takes a short ride to the lodge.
The last boat to the lodge normally leaves around 5:30 pm given the tricky and dark nature of the River. Once guests arrive, the island becomes their own world of water, rocks and forests, and the mainland feels far away.
The whole setting is exciting. The main lodge sits right on a solid rock peninsula, just above the water rapids. The rainforest covers much of the island, the lodge has elevated wooden walkways that connect the rooms, bar, and restaurants.
