The 4 Days Uganda Gorillas and Chimpanzees with Apex Africa takes you through the 2 thrilling primate adventures: chimpanzee & mountain gorilla trekking. This primate package involves visiting Uganda gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park & chimpanzees in Kibale Forest. Each of the primate adventures promises captivating sightings beyond chimpanzees and mountain gorillas. Additional primates can also be spotted as a spice up to gorilla and chimpanzee encounters.
With this Uganda gorilla and chimpanzee safari, expect to commence your journey from Entebbe/Kampala to Kibale National Park in Kabarole, & finalize with Bwindi for gorilla trekking. Kibale Forest is a popular spot for seeing up to 13 primate species, plus 375 bird species.
Bwindi, a UNESCO-designated site, holds the highest concentration of mountain gorillas. Out of 1063 of the world’s mountain gorillas reside in Bwindi Forest, with a total of 25 habituated gorilla groups available for tourism. Below is a detailed 4-day Uganda gorillas and chimpanzees’ itinerary
Day 1: Pick up from Entebbe & Drive to Kibale
Have a hearty breakfast and be joined by your Uganda driver guide to quickly take you through today’s program. Take your seats in a 4×4 safari car and proceed up to Kibale National Park –the primate capital of the world, which lies in Kabarole district. Enjoy the breathtaking views in the countryside featuring the lush forests, the Rwenzori Mountains, tea farms, and Crater Lakes. En route, lunch will be had on arrival at Fort Portal city, and you will drive on the Kamwenge route to Kibale Forest National Park and check into your respective lodges.
In case you reach early, you may proceed with the Bigodi wetland walk for 2 hours (optional). At the Bigodi wetland, you can have astonishing sightings of primates like baboons, black & white colobus monkeys, plus bird species.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking & Depart for Bwindi
Enjoy a delicious breakfast early in the morning and meet the driver guide to connect you to the Kanyanchu Tourist Centre. Start clearing with the park authorities and join the briefing session, where you will also be assigned a park guide. Kibale chimp treks begin at around 8:00 am, and you may spend at least 2-4 hours searching for chimpanzees. The trekking session is wrapped with one hour of taking photos and observing chimpanzees as they feed on the vegetation, nest, play, and socialize.
Walk back to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre or meet the driver guide at the spot he dropped you when you started the actual chimpanzee trek. Connect to your respective accommodation to officially check out, and the next journey to Bwindi commences immediately.
Kibale to Bwindi drive time is estimated to be around 6 hours, and en route, you will have a stop at the Kikorongo Visitor Centre. Leave the equator monument and make your journey to Bwindi through Ishasha’s area.
Day 3: Bwindi Forest gorilla trekking & visit the Batwa community late afternoon
Enjoy a hefty breakfast, join the orientation session at Buhoma or the region where you booked a gorilla permit. The trekking adventure with mountain gorillas is entirely led by the park guide allocated to you by the UWA official. The gorilla trekking excursion is estimated to cover 2-6 hours, which also includes one hour with a group of mountain gorillas.
After the Bwindi Forest gorilla trek, you will also experience the Batwa cultures and traditions. This may depend on your fitness levels, and you may opt to be at the lodge as you regain your strength after the thrilling gorilla trek.
Day 4: Exit Bwindi for Entebbe/Kampala
Before exiting Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, get yourself a hot cup of tea/coffee. Check out of the lodge, and you will have nothing else other than returning to Entebbe or Kampala, thus concluding the 4 Days Uganda Gorillas and Chimpanzees.
